From the heart of Allen County, REAL Talk is where we explore the lives of LaHarpe residents. REAL stands for Reaching Equity in All Lives and “REAL LaHarpe” is an initiative inspired by a 3.5-year resident-led grant from the Kansas Health Foundation awarded to Thrive Allen County focusing on community engagement to reach health equity in underserved populations.
Today, LaHarpe has a population of 537. While LaHarpe has seen brighter days, with a new fitness center open in the center of town, a continued renovation of the park on the east side of town, and ongoing conversation about the town’s development, things are definitely looking up. Many volunteer projects and community events have happened over the last few years and more are in the works, including bringing back “LaHarpe Days,” an annual community celebration absent now for almost 10 years.
REAL Talk is produced by The Iola Register and supported by Thrive Allen County, the Kansas Health Foundation, the Health Forward Foundation and the residents of LaHarpe, Kansas.
